Our Susquehanna Conference will provide a livestream to share information about the recent UMC General Conference. Mount Nittany UMC, 1500 E. Branch Road in Lemont, will be the livestream site in our area. You can also view the livestream at home but you must register at https://www.susumc.org/understanding-general-conference-2019. At the General Conference, delegates affirmed, by a small margin, the continued exclusion of LGBTQ persons from ordination as pastors and from marriage in the UMC. Additionally, much stricter penalties would be imposed upon congregations and pastors who do not follow these policies. The actions taken by the General Conference will now be reviewed by the denomination’s Judicial Council to determine if the rulings are in agreement with the church’s constitution.
